British Values Policy

British Values Statement 

At Futures-Essex, we are committed to promoting and upholding the fundamental British values that underpin our society. These values are essential for fostering a cohesive and inclusive learning environment where all students can thrive. As an alternative provider of education, we recognise the importance of instilling these values in our students to prepare them for active citizenship and successful futures.

Roles and Responsibilities

The Provision Manager is responsible for; 

  • the overall implementation of this policy and for ensuring that the British values are upheld throughout Futures-Essex Ltd
  • all staff are aware of the requirement to uphold British Values through the methods outlined in this statement and will ensure that the appropriate procedures are in place to carry out these methods.
  • disciplining staff who do not uphold British values, in line with the Disciplinary Policy and Procedure.

The government defines “British Values” in its “Prevent Strategy” as:

Democracy: We believe in the power of democracy. Students at Futures-Essex have the right to express their opinions, participate in decision-making processes, and contribute to the school community. We encourage open dialogue, respectful debate, and active engagement in student councils and other democratic structures.

Rule of Law: Respect for the rule of law is central to our ethos. We teach students about their rights and responsibilities as citizens. Our behavior policies emphasize fairness, accountability, and consequences for actions. We promote a safe and orderly learning environment.

Individual Liberty: We celebrate individuality and personal freedom. Students have the right to express themselves, explore their interests, and make informed choices.We encourage critical thinking, self-expression, and the pursuit of knowledge. However, this freedom should not infringe upon the rights of others.

Mutual Respect and Tolerance: We respect for others, regardless of differences, is at the heart of our community. We value diversity and promote understanding. We actively challenge prejudice, discrimination, and stereotypes. Our curriculum includes education about different cultures, religions, and beliefs.

Social Responsibility: Futures-Essex students learn about their role in society and the impact they can make. We encourage empathy, compassion, and a sense of responsibility. Volunteering, community service, and awareness of global issues are integral parts of our educational approach.

At Futures-Essex Ltd, we believe in nurturing responsible and informed citizens. To achieve this, we extend invitations to a diverse range of agencies, including Statutory, Private, and Voluntary organizations. These agencies participate in our monthly workshops, where we cover essential topics that empower our pupils to engage actively in society.

Our invited guests provide signposts, valuable advice, and essential information. They share real-world experiences, inspiring our pupils to consider future career paths. By interacting with professionals from various fields, students gain insights into potential job opportunities and pathways.

Staff training
Members of staff are made aware of their responsibilities in terms of British values during their induction, shown this policy and through additional training. 

Like any forward-thinking education provider, Futures-Essex Ltd remains dynamic and we strive to equip young individuals with a robust set of values, empowering them to construct prosperous lives and contribute positively to society.
